Princess Waltz: Now with less DRM!

This isn't really news-worthy because it is simply a company doing exactly what they promised too. However that seems to be a rarer and rarer thing nowadays.

When Princess Waltz was released (my review here) both the download and packaged edition came with the Software Defender DRM system. This was JAST USA/Peach Princess/G-Collections first release with this system and a departure from their previous policy of selling physical copies without DRM.

I do not dislike Software Defender. It is extremely invisible and does what it is supposed to. Each code gets 5 installs so I can lend/share a game within reasonable limitations (lending/sharing itself is a interesting moral quandary but that's another post). That being said, I certainly don't care for it and would prefer to not have to deal with it. Many people agree with me so part of JAST's new policy was that a patch would be released for packaged editions after a certain length of time (1-2 years) and that would allow people to remove the DRM. Not perfect as you still have to use your serial code to fetch the drm-free patch but still a reasonable compromise.

The first of these patches came out today (for Princess Waltz) and amid smart phone cases on the deepwater horizon, one company kept their promise to their customers. Quiet, simple, accountability. Today I am happy to be an eroge customer.



So go buy it already

While her skirt is still hell on earth to get off over those lovely hips....She stands now, without support and (after I just knocked her over with my hand...) too much work to set up.

She is still unreasonably loose, still skirt is badly designed to get over those hips... but she stands and that is the point of her so I'm much happier.

I am still afraid to unclothe her again because of that damn skirt being too small to fit over without stretching....

And the Princess Waltz review is at 1100 words. I can't believe how long this game has taken me with all this excitement going on around me. A very deep apology to Mutio and Peach Princess for the wait.

Okay, I got Iris to cast off? I should be happy right?


Now she won't stand (clothed) anymore.... her upper body falls off the peg. I have to use something to hold her back from tipping. If I had known this would happen I would have never cast her off. It was really effing hard to pull her upper body loose but the peg doesn't go in that sturdily.

Very disappointed with those who reported this figure as designed for cast off. It may be cast-off-able but she sure isn't designed for it.

What I've been up to

Mostly playing Princess Waltz... entertaining family.. etc... not much to blog lately

I got an Apple Remote :D Might use it with lockdown but the problem with lockdown is its SCARY when it goes off.... People might drop the damn computer if it goes off when they pick it up. XD Oh is it LOUD. Also... I recommend pairing your remote or turning off the IR port if you have lockdown running all the time... don't want someone like me activating it whil your working... or unlocking it with my remote.

Can't wait for school to resume so I can weak havoc with this little toy....

A review of this game is in the works (I am still playing it). Very fun game, the action-packed plot and a fun battle system make this title appeal to the most casual visual novel players but purists are not totally abandoned. The easy mode ensures you can advance the story which is still very character centric. As the website proclaims, this is an eroge so it surely will not receive the attention it deserves. Not much sex is present however, if you can this is a great title to check out.

Please note both the download and the DVDROM versions have DRM protection. PW is the first English VN with this new DRM technology and it is painless. Enter your activation # once and you are done. The program "Software Defender" will try to contact the (very fast) server every time you run the game but will allow the game to run if you do not have internet access. Even a downloaded game will run with no restrictions without a internet connection. This is the most reasonable download game DRM I have seen, you receive five installations (not restricted by IP address) and can request a refresh of installations at Peach Princesses discretion. The package version will have the DRM removed in 1-2 years by a patch. DRM can ruin a game but this system doesn't both me much, read more about PP's policy here.

This looks really good! And costs less than half as much as a Japanese version (plus its uncensored and ... in english!).
